Peter Preziosi, PhD, CAE, Chief Executive Officer
Peter Preziosi, PhD, CAE joined the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), formerly AAMT as executive director in September 2003 and now serves as Chief Executive Officer of both AHDI and the Medical Transcription Industry Association (MTIA) following a legal partnership formed by the two associations in 2007. Preziosi was instrumental in the transformation of both associations and has worked to build new alliances with standard-setting organizations, technology vendors, and healthcare policymakers to ensure that the medical transcription industry and profession remains relevant in the emerging electronic healthcare environment.
Under Preziosi’s leadership, the associations formed an education approval program to raise the standard for medical transcription education, began a national registered apprenticeship program with the U.S. Department of Labor to avert the shortage of qualified medical transcriptionists in the U.S., created a consumer awareness campaign related to reading and understanding personal healthcare records, initiated annual advocacy summits in Washington D.C. bringing members of both associations to Capitol Hill to increase the visibility of the sector among health policymakers, and established new benchmarks for measuring quality in medical transcription practice. In addition, Peziosi’s team launched two multi-sector alliances to accelerate health information exchange: Health Story Project and a medical data exchange powered by Verizon Business.
Preziosi held executive leadership positions in national organizations including Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the National League for Nursing and the AMDEC Foundation, a New York State biomedical research consortium. He also worked for the City of New York’s Health & Hospitals Corporation and directed the Mayor’s Office of Medicaid Managed Care.
MTIA is the world’s largest trade association serving medical transcription service operators. Its mission is to create an environment in which medical transcription companies can prosper, grow, and deliver the highest level of healthcare documentation services.
